It is an obvious and uncontroversial fact that most Western Europeans have voted with their feet and do not involve themselves with Church as they have experienced it and understand what the Church means.

As a 'Church' minister, I have to say I have some sympathy with that view. For the larger part of my life, I rebelled against Church and all it stood for, I found it (as the Alpha Course challenges us) Irrelevant, Boring and Untrue.

Was this an unfair and/or inaccurate understanding of what church had/has become in the last decades in the UK?

There is a growing dynamic movement of people who are seeking God and His Glorious Kingdom in the simplicity of fellowship one with another in a simple form of real church, just like it was in the days of Paul the Apostle. No religious trappings, simply seeking and finding the author and perfector of our Faith, letting Him reveal the TRUTH to our very being, and flowing in Him and His ways.

Sort of back to the future church.

The Church I am describing is growing all over the land, all over Europe and the rest of the world. It has many names and many different styles and forms, but they all are following Jesus, His teaching, and doing what He told us to do the way he told us to do it. The growth is exponential. This is His Church! Jesus said I will build my Church.....

So who are we in this context? We are a Holy Priesthood, set apart for God. Working with Jesus to see His Kingdom Come, His will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.

This is not an easy concept to grasp until you have looked and tasted and seen that the Lord is good. A guy called Steve Holloway did a seminar at the New Wine fellowship camp a few years ago and called it Church for People Who Don't Like Church! Heresy you shout! But let us look at the facts. MOST People in the UK have decided to reject Church as they have experienced and come to know it. Unfortunately so poor was the example they received in some cases, they thought that was what it was all about and in rejecting the church, and in some cases, they also threw out Jesus, although many are still searching for some kind of Spiritual answer, but not through Jesus or the Church as we know it! This is not because as the Alpha Course makes clear that Christianity has been portrayed by those representing it as Irrelevant, boring and untrue, when in fact it is the most amazing, empowering, life giving, exciting unimaginably wonderful TRUTH, that it exceeds even our wildest Fairy Tale hopes and dreams that any of us may ever have hoped for!

Did you experience LIFE, NEW LIFE, JOY, PEACE?

Did you see the lame leap, the deaf hear, the blind see?

If not, was it really Church?

The most amazing things are happening all over the world

and "THE Church (Matthew 16 v 18 the Bible)" is growing!

The big problem is to become a part of this Church, you need to know that God can not use you in your own strength! Unless we humble ourselves, admit we rae sinners against a Holy righteous God, and that Jesus died for me! His blood on my hands? It's the entry price. Too many folk in these days have become self righteous, and therefore don't need the righteousness of Jesus, they can do it 'there way!' Well I'm sorry to have to say it so bluntly, but unless we accept that we are an unholy mess and need Jesus, we will in no way enter the Kingdom of Heaven!

That's the bottom line.

Those who believe the above, like those in the days of St Paul, used to meet in each others homes, under trees, by rivers, wherever they were, that was church. The web site name use for this site, "The Church that meets....." is a direct reference to Scripture where so many times reference is made to the the Church that meets at this house, or that house. Well, we are a Church that meets at various houses, including my house, we meet in Chorley, Wednesfield, or The Scotlands in Wolverhampton, we even meet sometimes in the Chapel at Chorley, or the Village Hall or the Neil Dougherty Centre on The Scotlands. The church is whenever we gather together even 2 or 3 of us, wherever we are. It is the people who are the Church, not the building.

This is just the way the Church started out in peoples homes and under trees, and by the river side. "Wherever two or three are gathered together in my name, I am right there in the midst of them" Jesus said. Thank you Lord we can ask for nothing more, for if you are with us, who can be against us. Any where with you is where we want to be, for you have the words of eternal life and the answer to all our problems and the mysteries of life.
